How to Start a Food Blog

If you’re a foodie and have ever dreamed of being a food critic, you now can! You can even get paid to review your favorite restaurants.

If you so desire, you can eventually work your way up to be a local celebrity, enough so that you may even get free meals out of it. Here’s how to get started.

Setup a Website

Setting up a website is super easy these days. You can start a simple WordPress blog (it’s free). If you want to go fancy, you can buy a domain name from Godaddy and buy a hosting account from Hostgator.

If you’re not technical, just go with the free wordpress site. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. What will matter is your content, for content is king.

Start Writing

Now, simply start writing every time you go to a restaurant. Take pictures if you can because unique images are good for search engines. It also makes your foodie blog authentic.

If you go out once or twice a week, you’ll have at least 2 blog posts a week. Most people eat out more than that, especially foodies so I would imagine you’d post more than just twice a week.

Promote Your Blog

Promoting your blog is the hardest part. But if your content sucks, it’ll make it even harder.

Here’s what I’d do. Write about 30-40 restaurant reviews on your site. For each post, share it on your Facebook and Twitter feed.

If your content is good enough, it may go viral among your friends and beyond. If your content is really, really good, you might get some organic links from other local websites and blogs. This is where the magic happens.

Monetize

There are a couple of ways to monetize. You can sell ad space on your website to local businesses. I’d stay away from egregious advertising for restaurants to maintain your credibility. Once you start making money, you will have become a paid food critic!
